Siemens is engaging in the Internet of Things World Forum from December 6-8, 2015 in Dubai with several speaking sessions and as exhibitor. Professor Siegfried Russwurm, CTO and member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, highlighted today one of the most innovative Siemens projects of recent years in his keynote entitled “A Web of Systems for a Digital World”. The idea behind the Web of Systems (WoS) is to connect the virtual world of data with the real physical world. That works by using web technologies like standardized web protocols to make industrial devices and equipment smart. These smart networked devices interact with and understand one another, because the data they generate and the functions they offer carry its meaning. This enables us to simplify engineering, makes devices and systems more flexible and robust and enables value-added services. Keeping the data and functions within the devices enhances security. This is a tremendous benefit, especially when it comes to intellectual property issues.
